About Rydal Mount

Rydal Mount, in the heart of the English Lake District, lies between Ambleside and Grasmere and commands glorious views of Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells. This was William Wordsworth’s best-loved family home for the greater part of his life, from 1813 to his death in 1850 at the age of 80. The house, which was a focus for romantic literature, continues to be owned by the Wordsworth family and retains the feel of a lived-in family home.

Excellent, worth a visit

We had an excellent afternoon going around the house and gardens. We had already been to Wordsworth House and Dove Cottage so wasn't sure about doing this house. We are so glad we did, had an excellent tour guide Leo, who added much more information to the life of William Wordsworth and family.

Lovely house

Lovely house has a real homely feel to it , super tour guide for the downstairs and we were able to look around upstairs on our own. Despite the rain we were able to have a cup of tea under the gazebo! Well worth a visit.

Magical and timeless

This was such an interesting and beautiful place. The guide was well-informed and the house is packed with books, letters, photos, pictures and many of Wordsworth’s possessions. The garden is gorgeous. It has a wild feeling and around every corner, you find another delightful aspect. We loved it.

Tranquility

We spent our last morning in the lakes at this beautiful house and gardens. Really enjoyed listening to the knowledgable young man who shared some of the history with us; he obviously enjoyed his subject. Definitely worth a visit.
